Presentation

Llibres de l'Índex is a small independent publishing house which was founded in 1990 as an answer to the growing concentration of publishing oligopoly in the Catalan market and, consequently, of ideologic control, commercial control and the control of the distribution of ideas in the hands of two or three economic groups. In this sense the cultural maxim: whoever loses, wins, is absolutely applicable.

Llibres de l'Índex specializes specially in non-fiction and all its genres, basically produced in the Catalan society, which is pluricultural and pluriethnic... It also publishes present basic universal thought.

About the trademark

Llibres de l'Índex takes its name from the Index Librorum Prohibitorum, which was the list of names that the Catholic Church forbid wherever it had political and social power; from the papacy of Paul IV until the mid 1960s. All the basic books about science, from Galileo to Newton, have been in the Index, as well as contemporary philosophers, from Sartre to Moravia.
The devil in the logotype was created by the Barcelona designer Pati Núñez.
